So yesterday I tweeted;
Anyone recommend a good task manager app for iPhone? I wish Google Tasks would sync :(
A few hours later I got a reply from @mememgo (who I later found to be Denis Altudov), saying he’d developed a task app that synced to Google Tasks, called GeeTasks. Imagine my delight!
I had a quick look around the net for impressions, and couldn’t find any. Denis then pointed me to his website forum, where I was able to gauge other user’s experiences. People generally seemed to like the app, and Denis was constantly taking constructive feedback and putting it to work in each subsequent beta release.
At first, I was a little put off by the price. $3.99AUD for a To Do list seemed a little steep. But when I actually thought about it, there were a few things to consider that aren’t immediately apparent;
- GeeTasks syncs to the cloud. Other apps with similar features require subscriptions (up to $25USD a year).
- GeeTasks syncs to Google Tasks. This is exactly what I wanted, to the letter.
- The features under development will bring the app into the feature set level of other paid services.
So I went ahead and bought it.
This is a good app. Once signed in with my Google Credentials, my tasks were immediately pulled down. I was able to edit and resync in 2 taps (I set my sync to manual to conserve data xfer, but the app default is immediate sync). GeeTasks supports multiple lists, so I was able to split my Tasks into Work and Home.

GeeTasks is much faster than Google’s own free Tasks web app, and the ability to have you Tasks available offline is a huge benefit.

Really though, the ability to manage my tasks from my desktop, laptop, netbook and phone is a wonderful thing, and easily worth the price Mememgo is charging.
The only real downside to GeeTasks, which Mememgo make quite clear on their website, is that if Google change their code, or the way Tasks are handles, GeeTasks will break. Denis states that they will work to fix the issue should it arise, but nothing is guaranteed.
GeeTasks is available now in the App Store for USD$2.99 / AUD$3.99. GeeTasks website. Mememgo’s Twitter feed.
